Foods that will help you burn fat and increase your metabolism

Outlined below is a recommended food list of high quality foods that you can use when putting together your diet.  Check out the Free Diet Plans page for an example of a diet that uses the foods from the list below.

*  When you start your diet program it would be a wise investment to buy a book that counts different types of food calories, carbohydrates, proteins and fats.  A book that I have been using over the past 10 years is called Food Counts.  You can get the latest copy of Food Counts online or your favorite bookstore.

** Remember that you get a cheat meal once a week to eat anything that you want (pizza, ice-cream, you name it!).  Avoid the fad diets and just stick with the program.

*** Avoid processed foods and sugars.  Dairy products should also be avoided until later on in the diet (with the exception of the cheat meal).  Dairy products will make you feel bloated and they really should be used by those that are on a weight gaining program.

Protein foods:
Chicken breast
Lean turkey
Fish (tuna, salmon, etc)
Lean beef (once to twice a week only)
Egg whites
Meal Replacement shakes (protein shakes) 

Quality carbohydrates:
Yams
Red potatoes
Brown rice
Oatmeal
Cream of Wheat
Cream of Rice 
Fruit (eat earlier in the day)

Examples of fibrous carbohydrates:
Broccoli
Spinach
Green beans
Salad
(Pretty much any greens that you want) 

Sugar substitutes:
Splenda (highly recommended)
Nutra sweet, etc…

Recommended Condiments:
Mustard
Spicy Mustard
Tabasco
Any hot sauce without sugar
Oil and Vinegar dressings
Italian dressing (if there is a little sugar in it then use it sparingly)

Liquids:
Crystal light
Tea
